“When I arrived, I had my major camera body around my neck most time or in an old Domke, together with a flash, spare batteries, my 17-35, and my 28-300. I used the Airport Addicted to carry my second body, extra batteries, clothes, 50mm, 14mm, 85mm, lensbaby, second flash, flash transmitter, tripod, MP3 Player, Powerbook 15”, SATfon, cables, charger, etc. There were no problems with the Airport Addicted’s material (photo 001.jpg is taken at -68°C windchill). There were happy security personal at all airports (Düsseldorf, Calgary, Yellowknife) as they could check everything pretty fast. I tried the Airport Addicted with my 500,4.0 and it also fits in perfectly.”

During our evaluation session, Jack gave us quite a number of important suggestions for improving the backpack. The area that needed the most improvement was the monopod/tripod attachment on the side. Based on our brainstorming sessions, we added a stretchable pocket to the side of the pack so that the bottom of the monopod could easily be placed inside of it and then secured at the top. This method also works great for tripods. Other important details, like the see-through business card holder, were discussed. There are so many different types and styles of photography. It’s critical for us to hear directly from photographers about what works and what doesn’t, and new features they would like to have.

“As getting in and out of airports has become more difficult, and as I am now responsible for the final look of images using Photoshop and digital workflow techniques, I find the mix of my carry-on gear has changed as well. In general, I am carrying much less equipment. Fewer bodies, fewer lenses, more dependence on fill flash, more batteries, more chargers, a laptop computer. Fewer checked bags. I try to make everything fit into the backpack because it stores perfectly in the overhead baggage compartment of an airplane. In many ways, the capacity of the backpack has become the defining part of what I carry and how much I can carry.”
