Airport Security Gear Configurations

The roller comes with a multitude of dividers, so you can configure it based on your gear and your personal preferences. SLR bodies can be put into the roller either attached to a lens, or separated, with the dividers provided. The very deep 8” bottom section can be used for large lenses like a 400 2.8, 500, or 600, as well as medium format equipment. There are no rules about how it should be packed – it’s entirely up to you. What follows are suggestions based on different types of equipment.

“My plans at the moment is to take the Think Tank roller with me to Torino, Italy for the Winter Olympic Games. I’ll probably pack it very different, using it mostly for long lenses (300mm, 400mm) , a digital body and some remote gear. I’ll have a backpack for camera bodies and short glass with my laptop ... “ Dec. 18th, 2005

Here is a set up for event photography - complete with two Nikon SLR's, 5 lenses, two strobes, a battery pack, and clamps. Note in the photo that the 70-200 2.8 is located under the clamps (it can only partially be seen under the clamps). As you can see from his website (www.jeffreysnyder.com), Jeff shoots a wide variety of events and sports, as well as running the Washington Photo Workshops (www.washingtonphotoworkshops.com). His roller is the primary means of transporting his gear to all the various events he shoots.

“The roller is great. I got to show it to a bunch of international photographers from around the world at the Fina Championships in Montreal, Canada. This past month I was able to try the roller on different planes. On United’s 737 the roller was able to fit wheels in first as well as the 757’s, however, on the Airbus 319 and Airbus 320’s. I had to put the bag in sideways. On one of Southwest planes (unsure of the model) the roller was able to fit wheels in first as well.” Sep. 9th, 2005

Brad was the first photographer that strongly encouraged us to develop a roller, and gave us a tremendous amount of design information so that we could move forward with the design. Brad tested the very first prototype, and now has been using one of our rollers for about 6 months prior to the public introduction. This type of testing by professionals is absolutely essential to the design process. You can see some of the original test photos at: www.thinktankphoto.com/share.php
