Overall Product Rating:

I already got 6 different ThinkTank bags and case, so I know the great quality of this line up. This time, one thing is strange about this Citywalker 20. Referring to picture 3 of the features, when, for instance, a strobe is added next to the main insert, you may close the bag with the top part, but the top side of the bag will remain open, because the top part does not simply, recover it ! the same about the other side. So, is it totally safe to have a bag that is not fully close when walking ? If one knows a trick to solve this case, please be welcome !

I have both the Retrospective 10 and the City Walker 10. The Retrospective was the first shoulder bag I really liked, and it is still my favorite. But I wanted something lighter and more resistant to rain, so I bought the City Walker. Having both, I actually use the City Walker more. The main reason, though, turned out to be the insert. I have a Canon 5d Mark II and a couple of primes, and the camera just slides in and out much easier than with the Retrospective. The soft material and shape of the insert are really what make it so perfect for this. The City Walker is also smaller and more minimal, which is good and bad. It fits less gear and other little things, but that means it’s also much lighter. I still use the Retrospective when I’ll have the camera out most of the time, and the bag loaded with gear (for photo shoots mostly). But for travel and other general street photography, I take the City Walker.

ThinkTank quality has definitely gone down with these bags. I remember owning a Retrospective and it was solidly made. I purchased CityWalker 30 and within a month the anti-slip rubber pads on the shoulder strap became unglued. I contacted ThinkTank and they agreed to replace the bag for "free". Unfortunately, you have to pay for shipping and shipping the bag to California is around 30% of the bag's cost.. As far as rollers go, ThinkTank make great bags but for shoulder bags I will be looking elsewhere.

I normally don't write reviews but feel to write one and mention the City Walker 20. It is a wonderful bag and keeps my gear well positioned and protected from the elements. This bag was in Iceland with me and took a huge dose of rain on multiple occassions throughout my trips there. I also used it on my recent trip to main where many excursions were on boats and during the rain and wet fog. The material covering my equipment stood up to the elements and the useful feature that other Retrospective series dont have (I own Retrospective 5, 10, 20) is the side flap protection on each side of the bag. This substantially prevents the rain, dust from openly entering the inside of the bag and damaging the equipment eventually. I do think that Think Tank should consider to include the sides protection to their Retrospective series. The City Walker 20 can easily and comfotably accomodate cameras such as D610 or D300 with vertical grip as well as larger lenses such as 28-70mm f/2.8, 17-35mm f/2.8, and 70-200mm f/4. The bag can also accomodate a light layer of clothing in its spacious front inside pocket. The bag is great for traveling. Just the nature of heavy equipment can't be conquered yet by human shoulders. The large lenses are heavy and no matter how comfotable the bag you know the bag is filled with bricks at the end of the day. Overall the bag is comfortable and the strap is well designed for the load. At this point the Think Tank City Walker 20 is my favorite bag.

Love this bag!!! Tried many other bags before finding this one. Here's why: It's not an obvious camera bag, especially when purchased with the blue trim. Safely fits the 70-200, and the flap leaves plenty of room….you aren't cramming anything in here. Zippered large pouch in the flap is a godsend. The fabric is perfect….very resistant to weather and dust especially. Has a fabric feel, but doesn't attract dust at all…which is a huge plus when going to dusty job sites! Bag balances nicely on the shoulder, or extend to cross body. Either way, when loaded, it is a piece of cake. Also, if you don't own the fancy large Think Tank roller bag, you can fit this bag at the bottom of a regular rolling suitcase and add the other camera gear inside in whatever other bags you have. Then when you get to your destination, just whip out this bag and shoot away! Very versatile. Zippers and clasps are very heavy duty. I never worry about those kinds of things with Think Tank because they aren't going to break! Also, the insides come out, and the bag is roomy on either side of the padding when inserted. I put a Zoom mic recorder in the Zoom case just outside the camera gear and it fits just fine. Also, there is a great inside pouch which I don't see pictured here. Nice bonus to put a charger, extra batteries, notebook, etc. Oh, and did I mention you can slip an iPad into the outside pocket? Way to go Think Tank!
