MindShift Gear’s rotation180° Panorama Backpack Wins OutDoor Industry Award 2014

Our sister outdoor backpack company, MindShift Gear’s rotation180° Panorama backpack was named a winner of the prestigious OutDoor Industry Award 2014.  The OutDoor Industry Award is one of the highest design prizes available to companies in the outdoor industry. This year the expert panel of judges reviewed 361 products; 35 were selected to receive an award.

In selecting the rotation180° Panorama as a winner, the Jury stated:  “This daypack is a smart solution for photographers. It allows rapid access to equipment thanks to its integrated ‘rotating’ camera bag. The beltpack is on a sliding waist belt and stows away inside the main rucksack-compartment. In addition, the design of the shoulder straps makes it possible to distribute the weight of photo equipment evenly.”

“The OutDoor Industry Award honors innovative products that represent an exceptional achievement.  They have the potential to become future trendsetters in the outdoor industry,” said Stefan Reisinger, Head of OutDoor.

The OutDoor Industry Award was held by Messe Friedrichshafen this year for the first time in association with the German Designer Club (DDC). “The OutDoor Industry Award is proof of the high level of design, sustainability and above all technical innovation of the products in this industry. For us at

the DDC, it was an exciting challenge to organize the award and accompany the expert panel during the decision making process,” said Michael Eibes, designer and DDC president.

The OutDoor Industry Award 2014 is the second significant design award earned by the rotation180° Panorama backpack.  MindShift Gear convinced the 40-member expert panel for the Red

Dot Award: Product Design 2014 with the high design quality of its rotation180° Panorama backpack. In that competition, the international experts discussed and evaluated 4,815 entries from 53 countries. But only designs which won over the jury with quality and innovative strength won an award.

“Winning two such prestigious design and outdoor industry awards confirms for us the historical significance of rotating backpacks,” said MindShift Gear’s president and lead designer Doug Murdoch.  “Just as reservoir technology revolutionized the concept of staying hydrated in the out-of-doors, rotation has the potential to revolutionize how to gain quick access to gear of all kinds without first having to take off your backpack.  We believe our patented concept is one of the most significant breakthroughs in backpack design.”
